AISA boys basketball 2020 @SOIS, Osaka, Japan
Congratulations to Coach Munro, Coach Tyvand, and the SIS Tigers on their dominating - and third overall - AISA boys basketball championship. With poise and precision on both days, and an average margin of victory of 23 points, SIS were deserved champions. The Tigers will defend their title next year on their homecourt, TG1. (Historical - and self-serving - footnote: the average margin of victory for the 2013 AISA champions, SOIS Sabers, was 30, an unofficial AISA record.) AISA debutants KIS Jeju received the Fair Play award. Click on the Results links below for all scores and all-tournament team members.

GAME NOTES
- Game 1: Host SOIS Sabers defeated ISB Bears by mercy rule, 46-6.
- Game 2: The day's second game between the KIS Phoenix and the YIS Dragons, in a rematch of last year's championship match (won by KIS), featured two fast, strong, talented teams. KIS held a 4-point halftime lead. YIS battled back to take a 3-point lead into the 4th quarter. With about 3 minutes left, the Phoenix led 43-42. A 3-pointer by Noa Gustafson regained the lead for the Dragons and YIS never looked back, outscoring KIS 18-4 to secure the win.
- Game 3: SIS Tigers defeat ISB bears by mercy rule, 53-13, setting up a Pool A showdown between the Tigers and Sabers. A tough day for the Bears.
- Game 4: Playing in its first-ever AISA basketball game, the KIS Jeju Dragons jumped out to a 20-12 first quarter lead. The experience of KIS showed as the Phoenix stormed back, outscoring Jeju 20-2 in the 2nd quarter, en rout to a comfortable 56-43 win.
- Game 5: SIS Tigers vs host SOIS Sabers, to determine the top seed in pool A. Close for much of the game, but the Tigers were always in control and broke away at the end for a 63-51 victory.
- Game 6: Battle of the Dragons, of the Yokohama and Jeju varieties. YIS continued its dominant play to take the top seed in pool B.
- Game 7: KIS defeated a short-handed ISB to advance to the semifinals to face KAIAC rivals SIS.
- Game 8: Tightest game of the tourney with an exciting finish, a back-and-forth affair between KISJ and SOIS. After a relatively low-scoring first 3 quarters, the Dragons and the Sabers entered the 4th quarter tied at 33. Both teams then went on to score nearly 20 points each in the final quarter. SOIS had an 8-point lead with a minute left, forcing KISJ to foul. The Sabers missed several FTs, and the Dragons drained two deep 3s, including one from the halfcourt logo circle with 10 seconds left, to pull within 1 point. After the Sabers converted only 1 of 2 foul shots, the Dragons had the last possession down by 2 with 6 seconds left and a chance to tie or win, but they could not get a shot off, and the Sabers held on to advance to the semifinals.
- Game 9, first semifinal: SIS's tough defense made it hard going for KIS in the first half as the Tigers took a 29-15 halftime lead and cruised to a 22-point victory.
- Game 10, second semifinal: Things looked promising for the host Sabers as they led the Dragons by 2 after the first quarter and trailed by only 2 at halftime. But the depth and talent of YIS showed in the second half as the Dragons cruised to a 19-point win.
- Game 13, championship: What a battle between the clear top two contenders in the league this year. SIS took an 8-point halftime lead. YIS whittled away at it patiently, only for the Tigers to repeatedly hold off the Dragons. SIS 47-YIS 40 at end of the 3rd period. The Tigers surged in the 4th quarter to win by 13. It didn't help that the Dragons lost their top 3-point shooter to a back injury in the first half.
