Congratulations to the Dolphins, A division champions, and to the Falcons, B division champions.
Congratulations to the NIS Dolphins on their well-deserved first MS boys tutsal title. The Dolphins were undefeated on the day, drawing with the host SOIS Sabers in a scoreless pool play match. In a rematch in the championship game, the Dolphins #38 Owen Sykes scored the decisive goal in the second half and Nagoya held on for the victory. Sykes scored 9 goals in the tournament to take the A division Golden Boot award.
In the B divsion, the Canadian Academy Falcons B team capped off a dominent day, defeating the Nagoya B team 2-0 in the finals to take home the B division title. Falcons #21 Cameron Maine scored 6 goals in total to earn the B division Golden Boot award. With 3 draws and 7 matches decided by 2 goals or fewer in pool play, there was good parity in both divisions. SOIS and CA both had hopeful chances at the A division title, but in the end the Dolphins proved too strong and balanced. We welcomed Coach Tanner, Coach Takahara (former Sabers Outstanding Athlete of the Year award winner), and the Osaka YMCA International School as they made their first appearance in a WJAA middle school event. The weather was sunny and warmish most of the day, though the skies grew cloudy and the temperatures dropped by the end of the tournament. The event finished on time. Sabers coach Mr. Mike McGill and Fukuoka coach Mr. Chris Horner were recognized for their longevity. |
