Due to the closure of the school due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we did not hold our annual awards celebration in person. Still, it gives us great pleasure to announce the 2019-20 Sabers team and school award winners.

SABERS AWARDS CELEBRATION
​The SOIS community - high school students, parents, faculty, staff, plus OIS 8th graders and SIS 9th graders - are cordially invited each year to the Sabers awards celebration. Come help us celebrate another great year of Sabers athletics.

ATHLETIC AWARDS CELEBRATION 
SOISでは毎年6月、2部に分けてセイバーズのハイスクールのスポーツ選手を表彰する祝賀会を行います。
  • 1部目では、シアターにおいて全てのチームの成功をスライドショーやスピーチで紹介し、それぞれのチームで、
  • シーズン中最も努力し、その結果成長した選手に「若竹賞」、スポーツの技能、スポーツマンシップ、
  • リーダーシップ全てに優れ、チームの向上、活躍に貢献した選手に「最優秀選手賞」を授与します。
  • 2部目では、カフェテリアにおいて、バンケットを開催し、「最優秀スポーツ選手賞」と「ドクター福田表彰選手賞」の受賞者が発表されます。​
Each June, SOIS holds a two-part Sabers athletics awards celebration for high school student-athletes. 
  • During the first part, from 16:00 in the theater, we recognize the successes of all teams with slideshows, speeches, and the presentation of awards to the most improved players, most valuable players, and Sabers Spirit Award (SSA) players for each team. 
  • During the second part of the celebration, from about 17:30 in the cafeteria, we enjoy a light meal and announce two school awards: Outstanding Athlete of the Year and Dr. Fukuda Scholar Athlete.
SOISでは、チームのコーチ、より選ばれたチーム表彰、すべてのコーチ、学校管理職によって選ばれた学校表彰のふたつの賞をもってハイスクールのスポーツ選手を表彰します。チーム表彰はにはMIPとMVPとSSAがあり、学校表彰には最優秀スポーツ選手賞とドクター福田表彰選手賞とがあります。 
We honor our high school student-athletes with two kinds of awards: 
  • three team awards: MVP, MIP, and SSA (Sabers Spirit Award), chosen by each team’s coaches; and 
  • two school awards: Sabers Outstanding Athlete of the Year and Dr. Fukuda Scholar Athlete, chosen by coaches and school administrators.

若竹賞  Most Improved Player (MIP)
シーズン中最も努力し、その結果成長した選手に授与されます。 
This team member makes the most improvement by the end of the season through hard work and determination.

最優秀選手賞  Most Valuable Player (MVP)
スポーツの技能、スポーツシップ、リーダーシップ全てに優れ、チームの向上、活躍に貢献した選手に授与されます。 This team member exhibits extraordinary skill, leadership, determination, hard work, and fair play.
セイバーズの精神  Sabers Spirit Award (SSA)
シーズン中、積極的に、また一所懸命、試合や練習に取り組み、思いやりのある行動を取るなど、
常に最高水準のスポーツマンシップを実践し、他の選手の模範となるような行動を示した選手に授与されます。
This team member exhibits the best of Sabers Spirit: exemplary effort, positive attitude, and thoughtful sportsmanship. 

最優秀スポーツ選手賞  Outstanding Athlete of the Year
男女各一名ずつ選ばれます。年間を通じ2以上の選抜され、スポーツ技能に優れ、
リーダーシップを発揮し、努力を惜しまず、そのスポーツに取り組む姿勢で周囲を引き付け、なおかつ、
学業をおろそかにすることなく、学校内外の種々の活動にも積極的に参加する選手に授与されます。
This award is presented to Sabers female and male student athletes who have shown the highest level of
athletic skill, team leadership, and personal determination as a member of at least 2 varsity teams. Winners of this award are positive role models, have good academic standing, have participated in school and community service, and have not been involved in disciplinary issues.

ドクター福田表彰選手賞   Dr. Fukuda Scholar Athlete
男女1または2名ずつ選ばれます。いわゆる文武両道を修めた選手に贈られます。2つ以上の選抜され、かつ、年間を通じ、高い学力・成績を維持し、スポーツ以外にも、生徒会やクラブ、行事、ボランティア活動などにも積極的に関わっている選手に授与されます。
This award is presented to Sabers female and male student athletes who have achieved the highest academic levels and have played active roles in school and community service while a member of at least 2 varsity teams. The winners of this award show that one can maintain high academic standards and contribute to the school community while participating in sports.
