Where there's a Will, there's a way.
Prior to the SOIS Sabers high school baseball team's 2016 WJAA season opener against Marist Brothers International School at Minoh City Dai Ichi ground, Saturday, April 23, 2016, assistant coach and English teacher David Algie, calling to mind that day's 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, encouraged the team:
“Be not afraid of greatness: Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” The Sabers took Coach Algie's words to heart and pounded out a great 15-0 shutout victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Three Sabers - Taishin, Shutaro, and Mark - combined to pitch a one-hit shutout. Shutaro, back in a Sabers uniform after spending a year playing hockey (and going to school) in Canada, helped his cause by jacking a 100-meter homerun.
"This is probably the deepest, most experienced team we've had at SOIS, at least in recent memory. We have five pitchers who we feel confident putting in at any time," said head Coach Munetaka Sagara at the post-game press conference.
