MS Girls Soccer 2019_Sign Up (Tuesday 15 October)

10/8/2019

Welcome to the 2019 MS Girls Soccer season!

  • Our first practice is on Thursday 17th October from 3:45pm-5:15pm on the field, so please bring your sports clothes and football spikes or sports shoes.
  • Sign-up is on Wednesday 16 October from 16:15pm with Mr Heimer in room 210.
The season is for all OIS grade 6, 7 & 8 students, and all SIS grade 7 & 8 students.

Information about the season

Practice times and days.
  • Tuesday and Thursday – 3:50pm-5:45pm. Be on time!
  • I will often be on the field until 6:00pm, but players can leave earlier in time to catch the bus.
  • Be sure to tell one of the coaches if you will be late or absent. You can contact Coach Frater in room 324 or Coach Nikolic or Coach Hiraoka in the PE Office.
Commitment.
  • Teamwork, cooperation and respect are important if we want to make this season a successful one. Show commitment to your team, to your teammates and to your coaches.
  • You will be a member of a team (blue, red, orange, purple etc.) for this season’s practice games, and member of a squad for the games against other schools. Please make sure you are always here to practice and play. Don’t let your teammates down.
Weekends
  • All games will be on Saturdays, although some tournaments are over two days, Friday and Saturday. If there is no game scheduled against another team, we may play intra-squad games on Saturday afternoons here at school.
Equipment
  • Please wear comfortable sportswear, and wear 2-3 layers to keep warm if the weather becomes colder.
  • You must wear shin guards in matches.
  • Soccer spikes are preferable but not mandatory for practice. You do need spikes to play in games against other schools, however.
  • Hair up and back even for practice.
  • NO jewelry.
Attitude
  • We will work on skills, game situations and fitness. Work hard to improve in all of these areas.
  • Give 100% effort at all times even if you are tired at the end of school!
Travelling to other schools.
  • We will have matches against other international schools.
  • You will receive a permission slip for each away game.
  • You must get a parent to sign it and return it to the coach by the deadline. If you don’t do this you won’t be able to play!

Good luck, and we hope you enjoy playing soccer! If you have any questions, please contact Coach Frater at sfrater@soismail.jp

Varsity and World Cup Soccer

6/29/2019

It was great to see so many talented past and current Varsity players on the field together today. Those of you who got blisters or decided to kick a goalpost, I hope you recover very soon.

Remember that the first semi-final of the Women's World Cup is between England and the USA, the teams ranked #3 and #1 in the world. It should be a good game. You can watch it on Wednesday 3 July from 04:00am (!!) on BS1.

Highlights of England's win over Norway can be seen below. If you watch the free kick at 0.47 seconds, you will be pleased to see that England copied Sakiko's winning goal against YIS in the AISA final in 2016.

World Cup 2019

6/26/2019

Possibly the best goal of the tournament, a fantastic team goal by Japan against the Netherlands.
Notice the angle of the runs, and all the movement by the Japanese players without the ball. They create space and force the defenders to move out of position.

SOIS  V  0 - 1  CA.V

Results: Varsity vs Keimei HS @Keimei, 28 March 2018

3/28/2018

SOIS  4 - 6  Keimei HS
Goals: Keanna (3), Yulia

Thank you to everyone who made the trip and played during the holidays. Although we lost the game, there are plenty of positives to take away from today; some very good defending, good communication on the field, good support and overlapping from the full-backs, and adapting to a new style of attack based on the players available. It was good to see everyone adjusting to a new team and different conditions today, well done.

WJAA tournament travel details

3/4/2018

These are the travel arrangements from Mr Heimer:

Thursday:
13:30 departure from genkan. Players will need to leave class at 13:20 during period 5, and meet in the genkan to take taxis to Shin-Osaka station. There will be 6 taxis, so 4 students in each taxi = about ¥1,150 per student.

Graduates living near SOIS can take taxis with us, or meet us at Shin-Osaka station (in front of the central ticket gate) around 14:10. I need to know your plans in advance, so Mr Heimer can cancel some taxis if they are not needed.

We are taking the Nozomi 109 shinkansen from Shin-Osaka at 14:25. From Shin-Iwakuni station we will take taxis to the MC Perry base. Again, with 4 students per taxi, it should cost around ¥900 per student.

Please remember to bring your passport, otherwise you cannot get onto the base. You should also bring your insurance card in case of any injuries.
Picture

On Saturday night we've booked a restaurant in Shin-Iwakuni so we can have dinner together before returning to Osaka. This will be the last chance for the team to be together with the seniors. The reservation is from 5:15pm at the Campagne Italian restaurant (menu here). We will have around 90 minutes for dinner before our shinkansen.

More Varsity and JV games in April

3/1/2018

Please go to the shared Google Sheets documents to sign up for games in March and April. We need more players for the games against Keimei and Sanda Shounkan HS at the end of the Spring break, otherwise I will need to cancel them.

Also, there are new games on April 7; these are Varsity and JV games against CA, and Varsity games against a Japanese HS, at Sanda. This will be the final game before AISA and the end of the season. As there is a JV game as well, we will need almost everyone to sign up if possible please.
Thank you!
