Congratulations to the CA Falcons on their win this year, particularly as their squad struggled with injuries and they played the semi-final and final without any substitutes. As always it was a pleasure to host the teams from ISSH and Nagoya. Thank you for making the long trip down. Some of the results may have been disappointing for the Sabers, but as always our teams played with great spirit and will be much stronger for the experience. Of the 30 SOIS players in our three teams, only 7 were in middle school soccer last year, so the tournament was always going to represent quite a challenge. Considering a quarter of the A team, half the B team and the whole C team had no more than two weeks' experience with soccer, they played incredibly well and with a lot of heart. Highlights for the Sabers include the A team's great comeback from 3-0 down against ISSH, the close games between the B team's really close games with CA A and NIS A, and the C team's win over NIS B. Coach Rumble and I are really proud of the whole squad.
The following players have been selected to represent SOIS at the Sabers Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday this week. Please contact the coach as soon as possible if you cannot play for some reason. Remember that even if you are not in the team this time, we will take 4 teams to WJAA next month, so you need to keep practicing and improving for that tournament, and next season.
Managers Janet Jones - Asuka Hong - Haruka Batai - Momoka Fujii - Renon Ohno
The following players have been selected to play against Nagoya International School in Nagoya on Saturday, 28 October. Please make sure you complete the online permission form as soon as possible. Details of the trip (departure and arrival times etc.) can be found here.
Thank you to everyone who played over the summer. It was great to see the new players adjusting so well to high school soccer, and wonderful to see 5 of our best Varsity team graduates playing again. Below, from left to right, are graduate Varsity players Miki Chisoku, Ai Kano, Sakiko Otsuki, Kanako Tsutsumi and Natsuho Oura Four Dr Fukuda Scholar-Athletes of the Year (and four of the best soccer players to have worn the Sabers uniform) together!
From left to right: Haruna Tomiguchi (2017), Ai Kano (2016), Sakiko Otsuki (2015) and Natsuho Oura (2014) Here's a wonderful team goal from Juventus. Four passes, four players, and the ball doesn't touch the ground once before it is in the net. Great first-touch play! P17 W11 D0 L6 F63 A31 The two tournament finals ended in draws, although both were lost on penalties. Most importantly, we hope that Leona recovers soon from the knee injury that ended her season in early March. Goals
Thank you to everyone for another wonderfully enjoyable season of great football.
Congratulations to the Sabers Girls HS soccer team who were runners-up in the 2017 AISA tournament hosted by Seoul International School this weekend. The girls were also awarded the AISA sportsmanship award by their fellow players and the competing schools' coaches. Our thanks go out to the athletics department, students and homestay families from SIS who showed such warm hospitality to our players. Congratulations too to the winning team, Korea International School, who won the title after an exciting and very hard-fought final went to penalties.
