For 2 sessions a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, for about 5 weeks each session, several energetic OIS elementary students meet once a week to dribble, pass, defend, and shoot as part of the Little Sabers basketball after-school activity.

There are 2 Little Sabers groups, one made up of 1st and 2nd graders, and one consisting of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The younger group plays on the elementary playground and the older group plays in the Sabers gym. 

The one-hour sessions are split between work on fundamentals (including how to pay attention to the coach) and on informal games. The main focus is on having fun. 

Special thanks to Harry, 4th grade Little Saber, who served as assistant coach to the 1st and 2nd grade Little Sabers.

Special congratulations to Minami, a 5th grader who finished up her 4th year as a Little Sabers basketball player, having started in grade 1. Next year, she will be a Big Saber. (And Minami already asked me if she could be a Little Sabers assistant coach next year - now that's Sabers Spirit.)

Little Sabers will - sooner than you think - become Big Sabers, participating on the middle school and then high school teams. The future starts now. 2-3 Sabers! Hey-ohhhh!

Five Sabers teams brought home much hardware after two very fruitful recent weekends of WJAA championship tournament play. Three championships and 2 runners-up in 5 tournaments - not bad.

In a battle between two WJAA tournament favorites, the SOIS Sabers varsity softball team defeated an always strong Marist Brothers 4-3 on Saturday, May 3, 2014, on the Sabers field. Congratulations to Coach Hirai, Coach Hikosaka, and all the Sabers players.
