Sabers MS baseball team caps perfect regular season behind Sasaki's perfect game

9/26/2015

Next up: WJAA championship tournament, October 2-3, Canadian Academy, Kobe
Picture
On Saturday, September 26, the Sabers middle school baseball team defeated the Sons of the Light International Christian School (SOLICS) 4-0 to finish the regular season undefeated. Ensuring the perfect regular season was SIS 8th grade starting pitcher Keita Sasaki who pitched a perfect game: 6 innings, 18 batters, 18 straight outs, no hits, no runs, no walks, no errors, several strikeouts. Only one ball made it past the infield, a easy fly out to left field. OIS 7th grader Euan Lewis was Sasaki's battery mate behind the plate, and all Sabers infielders - Owen Kralovec (3rd), Ren Heimer (short), Liel Tanaka (2nd) and MJ Kim (1st) - all made important put outs to preserve the perfect game.
Sasaki helped his own cause by driving in 3 runs. But it was Sasaki's brilliant combination of blazing fast balls and off-speed pitches, nearly all on target, that kept the SOLICS batters befuddled and off the bases. It was indeed a perfect performance, one of the most dominant in Sabers baseball history. (Be sure to check out the official game ball in the Sabers trophy case.)

Next up, October 2 and 3, Coach Nakamura and Coach Yamada and the Sabers A and B teams travel to Canadian Academy in Kobe to defend their WJAA championship titles. Tournament information can be found here.

9/18/2015

Picture
Ten SOIS musicians, led by strings conductor Mr. Vernon Villapando, traveled to Bangkok to participate in the annual Bangkok International Strings Festival, 24-26 September 2015. This is the third year that SOIS students have played in this event. It is a great musical and cultural opportunity for them. Ms. Rie Matsuda helped chaperone the students. In brief, according to Mr. Villapando, the Sabers musicians performed admirably and received many accolades. Well done, Sabers strings players and Mr. V.

On Friday, October 9, 2015, nearly 30 OIS elementary Little Sabers from grades 2-3-4-5 will travel to Canadian Academy on Rokko Island, Kobe, to compete in the annual Falcon Cup 5-a-side futsal tournament. This will be a fun event for our young students. Please click here to view an informational flyer.

The Little Sabers have been practicing diligently on Wednesdays after school. The team is coached by Mr. Kralovec, OIS head of school, and Mr. Trevor Jones, OIS 3rd grade teacher. Ms. Entwistle, OIS elementary PE teacher, has helped organized the teams, and Mitsuhashi-sensei, SOIS PE teacher, has helped order the team uniforms.

Participating students will miss school on that Friday. Parent chaperones and fans are encouraged to travel to CA that day to support the Little Sabers.

Players will need to purchase the team uniform t-shirt (purple dri-fit shirt with white lettering, logo, and number, and also wear their own pair of black shorts.

Questions? Please contact the coaches or Mr. Heimer.
