The Sabers middle school girls soccer teams - A, B1, and B2 - compete in the annual season-ending Western Japan Athletics Association championship tournament at Canadian Academy (Rokko Island, Kobe), Friday and Saturday,
2-3 December 2016. Good luck, Sabers and Coach Frater and chaperone Ms. Namba. tournament website After opening the 2016-17 season with wins over the Marist Brothers International School Bulldogs (42-27), the Nagoya International School Dolphins (73-40), and the Kyoto International University Academy Flames (55-28), the Sabers high school boys basketball team faced its stiffest challenge of the year from Canadian Academy, November 5, 2016. After leading by 19 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, the Sabers held on for a comfortable 41-33 win to remain undefeated on the season. After the game, assistant coach Michael Routh commented, "It's great to be undefeated so far, but we have much work to do as we prepare for the WJAA and AISA tournaments. But so far the boys have done everything we've asked of them. Very proud and pleased with the effort and attitude, especially from our senior captains Leo Roberts and Aki Shigeyama, and our leading scorer, senior Taizo Heimer."
The Sabers A team placed 2nd (after winning the championship the past 2 years) and the Sabers B team placed 4th (losing only once during the tournament) in the annual Sabers Invitational middle school girls soccer tournament. The Canadian Academy Falcons were deserved champions. Sabers A team Aoi Okita and Sabers B team Miyu Sanada each scored 5 goals over the 2 days to jointly win the Golden Boot award. Congratulations, Sabers and Coach Frater.
