Moth balls kept their uniforms fresh and, for the first time in three years, since COVID-19 shut down Sabers competition against other schools in the spring of 2019, the Sabers high school baseball team donned those uniforms to play official WJAA games on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Canadian Academy in Kobe. As defending WJAA champions, the Sabers continued their winning ways in a morning double header, defeating Marist Brothers International School 16-4 and then Canadian Academy 3-1.
Coach Sagara had some tempered praise for the team, post game. "We batted and fielded well against the Bulldogs. But we struggled over the first several innings against the Falcons, in all phases of the game. We gave up too many walks and had some mental lapses on the base paths. But eventually our bats woke up to give us a lead, our pitching got stronger, and our fielding helped us close out the victory. I'm proud of the team."
The Sabers play in the WJAA championship tournament to be held at Canadian Academy, May 6-7, 2022.
