Sabers HS footballers win 2014 Sabers Invitational futsal championship
A year after losing a heartbreaker to MC Perry High School (Iwakuni) in the Sabers Invitational futsal championship match, SOIS earned redemption and a 2014 title with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Samurai on April 5. In a repeat of last year's final, the Sabers came back from an early 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 second half lead thanks to a spectacular curving direct free kick by senior Ayato Yamamura. After a Sabers error allowed MC Perry to equalize, the Sabers scored again in the final minutes and hung on for a well-deserved victory. Head coach Isaac Driver commented, "I couldn't be prouder of the boys." Assistant coach Derek Entwistle said, "Me, too. I couldn't be prouder of the boys."
